Off the sidelines
Careers in Canadian aviation move on who you've met. Job fairs, conferences, fly-ins and courses in and around Saskatchewan, gathered every week from associations, flight schools and operators. Pick one, tap I'm going, and see who from the crew will be there.

The Program
Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Commercial Pilot diploma alternates ground school at the Saskatoon Campus on Koyl Avenue with flight training at a partner Saskatchewan flight school, where low traffic and lots of sunshine make for productive flying. Graduates finish with a Commercial Pilot Licence plus a multi-engine or single-engine instrument rating, and Sask Polytech notes that local carriers actively recruit its students.

The Canadian career climb
Commercial operations in Canada are grouped by Canadian Aviation Regulations subpart. Sask Polytech is candid that most first jobs are ground positions at smaller operators, where you prove yourself before moving into a flying seat. Most grads climb through several of these:
Regional and mainline carriers flying turboprops and jets.
Multi-crew turboprops on scheduled and charter routes.
Single-pilot charter, often the first PIC job and often in the north.
Ag spraying, survey, photo and patrol flying.
Instructing on a Class 4 rating builds hours and judgement.
Ramp, dispatch, load control. The usual way in the door.
Diploma to degree
Grads can complete Sask Polytech's Bachelor of Applied Management with two more years of study, with remote and part-time options.

Resources
Canadian aviation sources members keep coming back to. High training costs and long hour-building years are a big part of Canada's pilot pipeline problem, which is why help from people a few rungs ahead matters so much.
